Merry Christmas, everyone! We hope you're having a wonderful holiday with your friends and family. As a little Christmas present, we would like to share a recent recording we did on our SoundCloud page.

It's a brand-new Did You Know segment with some little known facts about some of our Christmas traditions. (You may remember we did another one like this in our second Blogcast episode.) You'll hear the familiar voice of our friend Ryan Matlock from the WodFamOdPod and ScoopCast. Also, our sister Ashley makes an appearance.

Enjoy and have a blessed day!

A Year of Milestones

2013 was a great year for the Adventures in Odyssey Blog. We had so many big things happen that we thought that, with this being New Years Day, we should look back on them.

2013 was the year we celebrated 5 years of being online. It's hard for us to imagine that it's been that long! We had a lot of fun celebrating it. We're looking forward to many more years of being a great resource for Odyssey fans.

Another milestone for us was writing our 500th post. We've had some posts that were made and then deleted and some were just drafts that never made it to the blog, but nonetheless, our 500th post was Audio Theatre Central Interviews Shona Kennedy. We've had some more posted since then making this post #505.

It was a sad time when we released the last episode of the AIO Blogcast, but it was also a very fun episode to make. We shared our third radio drama, Skye Weldon, did some interviews, and relived some old memories. We have some regret ending the podcast, but we still think it was the right choice.

This past year, we launched our YouTube channel. We added some of the promo videos we did in the past, but most of the videos we uploaded were interviews. One of the biggest draws of the Blogcast was the interviews. We started doing new interviews (audio only) and then adding slides, pictures, and such to make it them into videos. Our interview with Steve Burns marked the first time our sister Ashley recorded with us.

One of the most exciting thing we did on YouTube was when we did our first live broadcast: a live interview with Phil Lollar. It was a lot of fun for us and the audience who sent in questions while we talked. We enjoyed it so much, we're planning on doing another one with an actress from Odyssey. Any guesses?

Although we had stopped podcasting, we still liked doing creative things with audio. So, we launched a SoundCloud page for the AIO Blog. When it was live, the first piece of audio we added was a sketch called An Odyssey Dinner Date about 2 fans of Odyssey going out on their first date together. It was a hit among the AIO internet universe with 160+ plays and 100 downloads. We also used SoundCloud to re-release some material from the Blogcast such as the Odyssey/Broadway songs. More recently, we did another Did You Know? sketch about Christmas.

2013 was a big year, but 2014 is going to be just as fun, if not more. We want to thank you for sticking with us throughout last year and we hope you'll continue to visit and support the Adventures in Odyssey Blog in 2014 and beyond.

Happy New Year!

The Squeegee is Silent: RIP Dave Madden

It is with a heavy heart that we must tell you readers that the beloved actor who played Bernard Walton, has passed away. Dave Madden died today at the age of 82. For many, he was the grumpy but lovable agent on The Partridge Family. But for us AIO fans, he will always be remembered as Odyssey's resident curmudgeon window washer.

Dave acted in nearly 100 episodes of Odyssey and performed at some of the live shows. Besides Bernard, he played many others such as Metal Guy from The Great Wishy Woz and Eric Von Warberg in An Act of Nobility.

We can all remember the joy and humor he brought us from his many years of acting as we grieve the passing of one of our Odyssey family. Our prayers are with the Madden family at this time.

The squeegee is silent.

You read right. We had so much fun doing our live Google Hangout with Phil Lollar that we wanted to do it again with someone else. Who is that person? Katie Leigh, the voice of Connie! During the interview, you, the audience, will be able to send questions of any kind in for Katie to ask live! If you can't make it to see us live, you can send us your questions in advance. You may send in as many questions as you want. We'll be accepting them the day before, the 22nd. When we're done with the interview, you'll be able to see the video of the whole thing again.

Review: "Under Drake's Flag"

I don't usually write reviews for radio dramas besides AIO, but I believe that this is one that needs to be heard by everyone, including Odyssey fans. Today, I am reviewing the radio drama series, The Extraordinary Adventures of G.A. Henty and it's first production, Under Drake's Flag.

When I first heard about G.A. Henty, I wasn't very interested. I saw his books for sale in a catalog, but at the time I told myself  that I didn't want to read some old, boring book. For a long time, I forgot the books existed until I read online that a group of people were making one of the books into an audio drama. Naturally, I was interested as I love all kinds of radio dramas.

However, it was a little while before I finally listened to it. I don’t know why I didn't hear it sooner. One of the things that will capture right off the bat is the music. It’s compelling, exciting, and imaginative. After all, what else do we expect from our favorite music composer, John Campbell!

The story is about two young boys, friends Ned and Gerald. Both wind up sailing with the historical figure, Sir Francis Drake. The boys are fictional characters, but they feel like they must have been real. They experience many adventures and perils and along the way, they learn what it is to be a follower of Christ and to be a Godly man.

I’m currently in college right now. I’m taking a US History course and I learned about the events and areas that are found in this story. That made hearing this all the more interesting. I guarantee that you’ll want to be learning more about this time period and people like Drake by the time you’re done listening to it.

If you think that this is just a boring history lesson, think again. The whole drama is action packed throughout the whole thing, but it never misses an opportunity to incorporate real emotions and struggles along with great moral lessons. There were also several times I found myself laughing, crying, and sitting on the edge of my seat through the adventure. The only thing that I found a bit cheesy was the introduction and ending bookends to the drama. It doesn't take away from the enjoyment factor at all though.

By the time I had finished listening , I was in awe. The creative team did a superb job of taking a centuries old tale and made it more exciting and enthralling than any modern action-adventure movie could ever be. If you enjoy Radio Theatre or Lamplighter Theatre or just great storytelling, you will love this drama. Also, you’ll hear many actors from those other shows in this drama as well.

Overall, I’d give this drama 5 out of 5 stars. It’s a simply incredible drama with amazing storytelling and sound design. My whole family loved it and I’m sure yours will, too. I can’t wait for the next G.A. Henty radio drama!

This time around, the Official Podcast hosts, Bob & Jesse, bring us an interview with Odyssey writer Bob Hoose and Chad Beninati, the author of the new comic book ("created" by Wooton), Drake the Cosmic Copper. Candid Conversations with Connie

We've got word on a new AIO book coming out soon. This time, Focus on the Family is putting out a book targeted at pre-teen girls with a "girl's guide to growing up" using the characters of Connie Kendall and Penny Wise as the mentors.

Welcome to Candid Conversations with Connie! And these conversations are going to be very candid. In this book we’re only taking questions from girls! Yep, they can ask whatever they want, and I will answer from my vast knowledge and experience. (Well . . . maybe not vast.) If I don’t know the answer, I’ll ask my friend Penny. We’ve been where you are, and we know what it’s like.

You’re not a little girl anymore, but you’re still years off from adulthood. You still like to play, but you also enjoy having long conversations with friends. You sometimes want to cuddle on your mom’s lap, and other times you wish she would just leave you alone. All that’s pretty normal, and you’ll see that from the questions we’re answering.

There will be at least 2 volumes of this series with the first book coming out in October 2014. What do you think of this new focus on girls instead of the general focus on boys & girls? Is it long overdue?

Summary for Album 58

More information about the next Odyssey album is slowly being revealed. Now, we have the official summary for the album which gives us a better idea what kind of stories we'll be hearing soon.

Comic-Connellsville! The “Let’s Get Together” Festival!

Who knew that two events could trigger so much drama in Odyssey? Wooton’s announcement about a family of detectives leads to suspicion and intrigue. Whit’s challenge of some popular ideas causes a difficult tug-of-war between conviction and compromise. And the surprise arrival of a few friends and former adversaries creates the perfect blend of excitement, comedy, and important life lessons for everyone.

The Ties That Bind contains 12 all-new episodes exploring questions about God’s design for marriage and family, loyalty, redemption, commitment, and love. It’s a collection for your whole family to enjoy and talk about.

It certainly seems that we'll be getting more than just normal slice-of-life episodes. It's rumored that the whole album may have an overarching storyline like Album 53: The Green Ring Conspiracy was.

What's your thoughts on the upcoming season?

We finally got our wish! Phil Lollar, the co-creator of Adventures in Odyssey is returning to write for his brainchild. However, we won't hear any episodes written by him this year. That means they won't be in Album 58 or the first season of the Odyssey Adventure Club. The earliest we'll hear them will be 2015.

Phil did return to acting for AIO in Album 53 and reprised his role of Dale Jacobs in "The Labyrinth." We'll also get to hear him in Album 58 this fall.

Welcome back, Phil!

Aventuras en Odisea

Back in 1992, Focus on the Family translated the popular Christmas episode, The Visitors, into Spanish: Los Visitantes. That was the only Spanish version of an AIO episode at the time available at the time (not counting the Odyssey videos).

However, in 2010, the AIO team recorded in Florida with Spanish speaking actors to make Aventuras en Odisea, a Spanish adaptation of the radio series with a Hispanic town of Odyssey. The episodes starting airing last fall and the episodes are now available to download. So, if you're wanting to hear how AIO sounds in a Hispanic setting or want a fun way to learn Spanish, this is your chance. They have translated up to Album 4: The FUNdamentals. You can buy the downloads of all episodes released so far here.
