Left to right: Nathan, Phil, & Jeff
You've heard their creations and voices for years. Now, as a part of the Summer of Celebration, the people behind our favorite radio dramas are going to be sharing their behind the scenes looks at Odyssey and Jungle Jam!

Jeff Parker is the guy that created  and wrote for Jungle Jam & Friends: The Radio Show. He's also appeared on AIO and wrote The Barclay Family Ski Vacation.

Nathan Carlson is the voice of the Narrator, Gruffy Bear, Nozzles the Elephant, and many other characters on Jungle Jam. On AIO, he's most well-known for his voicing Richard Maxwell, Mandy's dad, and Judah in the 3 parter Back to Bethlehem.

Phil Lollar is the co-creator of Adventures in Odyssey and the voice of Dale Jacobs. He recently returned to the show as a writer and director. He also plays Millard the Monkey, Jean-Claude the Flying Squirrel, and many others on Jungle Jam.

In the near future, we'll be recording a special round table audio interview with all 3 of these talented gentlemen. We've heard stories of their many recording sessions and how much fun they had. You, and us, will get to hear a little bit of the comedic magic they make together.

We want this interview to be as fun and informative as it can be. We need your help! If you have a question you want to ask Nathan, Jeff, or Phil, or a question you want all of them to answer, just post them in a comment on this post or email them to adventuresinodysseyblog[@]gmail.com.  You can ask about their work on AIO, Jungle Jam, or other projects they've worked on. You could tell us what character voice you'd like them to do on the interview. There is no limit on how many questions you can send in. Just make sure to get them in as soon as possible as we will be recording soon.

Make sure to share this with anybody you know who likes Jungle Jam and AIO so they can be a part of this memorable event!

Update: We have a date set for the recording. It's going to be this Friday. Make sure to get your questions in before then!

Let's Play Odyssey: AIO 3D CD-ROM

In 1998, during the time of the AIO animated videos, Focus on the Family made the first Odyssey computer game. It combined the 2D animated characters in a 3D environment. Players could walk around a virtual Whit's End, meet some of Odyssey's citizens, work at the soda fountain, fly the Strata-flyer, and more! However, the game is no longer sold and is now a collector's item.

As part of the Summer of Celebration, you can now see the game being played first-hand in our new video series: Let's Play Odyssey! We booted up the game on a modern computer and recorded us playing it.

The game play will be broken up into 3 different videos. The first one is able to be seen today. Once the other videos have been completed, this post will be updated with the next 2 videos. You can also subscribe to our YouTube channel to be the first to know when the remaining parts are up.

If you want to hear Austin's commentary on the game while you watch, you can find that here. You can also view several screenshots of the game, including the original game manual in this photo album.

Have you ever played this game before? What's your favorite part of it? Have you played any other AIO computer games?

Interview with Nathan Carlson, Jeff Parker, & Phil Lollar

We are very excited to bring you a very special interview. It's special in 2 different ways. First, it's the biggest recording session we've ever done with 6 people recording at the same time. Second, it's the first time we've interviewed 3 different people at the same time.

Those 3 people are Nathan Carlson, Jeff Parker, and Phil Lollar. These guys are the ones that created, wrote, and acted in Jungle Jam and Friends: The Radio Show! These guys also worked on Adventures in Odyssey in different capacities. Nathan played Richard Maxwell, Judah (Back to Bethlehem), David Strausberg, and many others. Jeff wrote and acted on the show. Phil, of course, co-created AIO along with acting, writing, and directing on it.

In the interview, they talk about how they met, share fun memories of recording together, Jeff tells how Jungle Jam was created, Nathan talks about how he became a voice over actor, Phil gives an update on Iliad House, and much, much more!

To top that all off, we get to hear Nathan and Phil do their voices of Gruffy Bear & Sully the Aardvark and Millard the Monkey & Jean-Claude the Flying Squirrel, among others as they ad lib an original scene together.

This is not an interview you want to miss!

If you want to hear more from Nathan Carlson, you can check out an interview that the Official Podcast did with him recently.

A New Logo for 2016 & Beyond

If you heard our interview with guys from Jungle Jam, you might have seen something different in the video. That's right. We have a new logo for the Adventures in Odyssey Blog!

New Logo
This new logo was made by our talented friend, Michael Wilmot. He made it over a year ago for us, but we believe now is the time to adopt it as part of our new look. For about 5 years, we've had a few variations of the logo below with minimal change. We really liked having Eugene stand in for the "l" in the word "Blog."

Old Logo
However, we wanted to have a more simplistic and uncluttered look for our new logo. The red also goes along with the color schemes we've kept for the site over the years. You'll see the new logo rolling out here and to all of our social media sites very soon. Special thanks to Michael for making us such a great looking logo!

There's only 5 more days to our 8th birthday. Check back then as we reveal a whole new look for the website!

What do you think of the new logo? Do you like it better than the old one or do like the old one better? We want to know!

Celebrating 8 Years & A New Look!

Happy birthday, Adventures in Odyssey Blog!

Today marks exactly 8 years of this site being on the internet. It really doesn't seem like it's been that long. It's been almost that long since we done a total makeover for the blog. It's looked roughly the same throughout the years, albeit with a few tweaks and of course, different logos.

One of the reasons we haven't changed it in so long is because we were happy with how it looked and couldn't find one that we really liked to replace it. Well, as you can see, we found our new look!

The website now has a simpler, brighter look. The pictures are the main focus. You can now see more of what the blog has to offer at a quick glance. Interacting with the content is more responsive. It also complements our new logo quite well, in our opinion.

Please be patient with us as we continue to tweak some things to make it look the best it can be. You can help us! If you see something that doesn't display right or looks odd, please let us know so we can fix it. A description of what the problem is and a link to its location would be great. Just email any problems you see to adventuresinodysseyblog[@]gmail.com.

The Summer of Celebration isn't done quite yet. We have a couple of things we want to do before it's over. Thank you to everyone who has followed and supported us throughout these years!  We love you guys!

Dave himself interviews Landon about his experience acting with people like Dave Madden and Hal Smith, how he got himself to cry so much in ...But Not Forgotten, performing at the first Odyssey live show, and many other things. It's a special father-son reunion/interview you'll definitely want to hear and you can do that on the OAIOP website.

The Official AIO Podcast is celebrating 10, yes 10, years of making the show! In their latest episode, their 262nd episode, Bob & Jesse change things up and let someone interview them on their podcast.

JD, Andrew, & Roy, the hosts of Audio Theatre Central make appearances on this episode as the interviewers. They ask the OAIOP hosts about how they came to work for Focus on the Family, their favorite podcast memories, and give some hints at some upcoming AIO episodes. It's a really fun episode that you're sure to enjoy. You can hear all of that on the Official AIO Podcast's website.

If you want to hear more about the OAIOP hosts, you can hear an interview we did with Bob & Jesse about 6 years ago in the 5th episode of the Blogcast.

Another AIO podcast is celebrating a big milestone: the Adventures in Odyssey Oddcast. They just recently released their 100th episode! Our friends Devon & Victoria Francis have been filming their video podcast for over 3 and 1/2 years, going in-depth into current and past episodes of Odyssey, along with special segments like What If's and Beginner's Guide to Odyssey.

You can watch their 100th episode now and hear them review A Predicament of Biblical Proportions and An Act of Nobility.

Congratulations to both podcasts on their achievements! You all help make the AIO fan community the best of its kind.

Phil Lollar's "Iliad House" Is Now Available!

Over 3 years ago, Phil Lollar (known as AIO's co-creator) started a Kickstarter campaign to help launch his new radio drama series called Iliad House. It was funded, but there have been several unforeseen circumstances that hindered the completion of it. We're happy to announce that it is finally done & ready to be heard by everyone and is well worth the wait. Welcome to a new kind of adventure!

CD Cover
Fourteen-year-old orphan Jesse Davidson lives with his emotionally-distant and peculiar uncle Christopher Portalis in the Iliad House, a mysterious old mansion on an island off the east coast of the United States. Just when Jesse is finally getting used to living on the island, he discovers that the old abandoned train he and his friends have been using as a clubhouse for the past year can actually move - through time!

They get caught up in a series of adventures fraught with temporal distortions, political intrigue, secret societies, and supernatural battles, all as they try to cope with the daily pressures and craziness of adolescence. While traveling through the future and the past, they learn hard truths and secrets about themselves, and that there is forgiveness and redemption available to all who desire it. And, as Jesse and his uncle come to understand each other, Jesse begins to see that there is much more to Iliad House, and to why he and his uncle are there, than anyone realizes.

The first album contains 6 episodes, including:
  1. First Impressions
  2. Time Train
  3. Visions of Reality
  4. Blood Money
  5. Open War
  6. The Clearing
.
Quick disclaimer: This series is aimed for a little older audience than the 8 - 12 age range for Odyssey. Parents should preview or listen to it with younger children as there are some scenes with characters in peril.

Here's a trailer of the series to give you a taste of what you'll expect.

You can get your own copy of the first 6 episodes on MP3 or CD on the Iliad House website. The artwork for this series is phenomenal. You can see a few of the pieces on the Kickstarter page. If you enjoy looking at the artwork for a radio drama while listening or if you want to share the show with someone as a gift, the CDs allow you to do both of those things. Make sure to support the show so Phil and his team can make more episodes in the future!

We'll be having a review with Phil Lollar soon about Iliad House and other things so if you've heard it already, make sure to send us your questions about IH, AIO, or anything else to us. Just don't post any of your questions publicly if they contain spoilers. For spoiler-related questions, email them to [adventuresinodysseyblog@gmail.com].

Iliad House is not associated with Focus on the Family.

Merry (almost) Christmas! You may remember that a couple of years ago, we wrote and sang a song with our friends Devon & Victoria Francis on episode 43 of our podcast called 12 Days of Odyssey. We uploaded that song to our SoundCloud page sometime after that.

Now, we have a lyrics video we made of that same song so you can sing along with us! Check it out and share it with someone who needs some Christmas cheer and some AIO fun.

To celebrate that, Bob & Jesse brought the writer (Kathy Buchanan) and sound designer (Jonathan Crowe) of A Very Bassett Wedding into the studio to go behind the scenes of the two-parter. They ask them questions about the planning for the wedding, favorite moments, and more. You can hear it all here.
